Q. Is it prohibited to play Ludo?  or Is playing Ludo Halal or Haram?


A. Among the sins of the hand is playing the many unlawful games. Among them are: dice, cards, and the like. These games are prohibited because they rely on guessing, not on thinking and calculating. Dices are the small cubes on which numbers are written and they are played with. and it is not permissible to play games which involves the use of dice which are haraam and emphatically forbidden.

Playing any game where dice are involved is forbidden.

The Prophet ﷺ warned us against using dice in general:

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said -  "Beware of these two marked cubes. They should be forcibly prohibited. They are part of gambling." - (Source: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Book 54, Hadith 12)

Buraida reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: He who played Nardashir (a game similar to backgammon) is like one who dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine - (Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Hadith 11)

It was narrated Abdullah bin Masood said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Beware of these two marked cubes that are thrown (i.e. dice) for they are the gambling of the non arabs". - (Source: Musnad Ahmed, Book 26, 4263)
